2020 Emergency Community Support Fund Grant recipient. The Family Transition Place team is thrilled to share that we were selected as one of 13 Dufferin County charities to benefit from the Dufferin Community Fund—awarded by the Dufferin Community Foundation. This fund, supported by the Government of Canada’s $350-million Emergency Community Support Fund announced in July, saw 13 local agencies benefit from a total investment of over $112,000.
These emergency funds truly could not have come at a better time for us, and the families that rely on our services.
Like many local agencies serving vulnerable populations, we were forced to adapt our services and facilities rapidly. A unique challenge for us in our congregate living setting, was physical distancing, coupled with the fact that due to the economic downturn and the cancellation of in-person events, our fundraising revenue has dropped significantly since the outset of the pandemic.
While we have had to lower our emergency shelter capacity to safely house families, extending one of our shared bathrooms would guarantee that we could accept the greatest number of families into our care, safely.
Without this modification, which we were graciously granted funding for, we would be limited by our existing shelter layout, when safety, shelter and hope will be the most important thing for families seeking support as the pandemic endures.
Thank you, Dufferin Community Foundation!
