Emergency Community Support Fund

UPDATE: The Dufferin Community Foundation has granted the full funding available to our community through the ECSF. We are unfortunately no longer accepting applications. Check back here for details on upcoming grant opportunities. Booster Grant applications open August 1st, 2020.

We are grateful to be in the unique position of disbursing the Emergency Community Support Fund in Dufferin on behalf of the Government of Canada and in partnership with Community Foundations of Canada.

Even before COVID-19  touched us, senior level governments and corporations increasingly relied on the expertise of community  foundations to understand local needs and opportunities, and to direct funds to those local programs and services they agree to support.

While the need is great, the Emergency Community Support funds are limited. Dufferin’s allocation is just over $110,000.It is our goal to ensure funds are spread fairly across the charitable sector. Accordingly, the Foundation has set an upper limit of $15,000 per application. Organizations may apply for more than one separate project by making additional applications.

MaryAnn Lowry, Grants Convener, conveys the thoughts of our experienced Grant Review Team. “The funding decisions will be fair; the process will be fast, but rigorous.”

The basics

  • Projects must address a pressing community need caused by the COVID-19 situation. Each project or program must serve one or more vulnerable groups.
  • Only registered charities and qualified donee in good standing and with a proven track record in Dufferin may apply to the Foundation.
  • Not-for-profits may apply through either the Canadian Red Cross or the United Way Centraide Canada.

The application process is streamlined and is available online . Successful applications depend on answering the questions, as asked and as specifically as possible.

Required information includes proof of eligibility, demonstrated link between the COVID-19 related need and the project or program described, and project or program budget.

Supplemental material will be considered only if it relates directly to the project.

Applications are now OPEN, close July 27th.

 How to apply?

We understand the impact of this pandemic will be far-reaching and the needs will continue long past when this funding ends.  Our focus continues to be building endowments to distribute earnings well in to the future.
