The W. & M. Edelbrock Fund is making sure that three local charities supported by the family get the kind of funding they can count on, rain or shine.
Last month, St. Timothy Parish, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 8851 and Headwaters Health Care Foundation each received a cheque for $1,765 from the W. & M. Edelbrock Fund.
While every donation is gratefully received by charities as a rule, this one is extra special. Since it is part of an endowment fund held at Dufferin Community Foundation, the three charities will receive a grant every year into perpetuity. They can expect that grant to grow to become a significant source of annual support.
“Sustainable funding makes an incredible difference to charities,” said Michele Fisher, Executive Director of Dufferin Community Foundation. “It means they can do longer-term program planning, ensuring that valuable services are there for residents when they need them, because they have a reliable source of revenue.”
More typically, charities will receive sustainable funding for two-, three- or five-year periods. One of the benefits of having a donor-advised fund with the Foundation is that you can direct a portion of the annual income to charities you care about the most. That way, sustainable funding lasts forever.
“It’s quite a thing knowing that you are supporting your favourite charities in your lifetime and beyond. It means that every generation to come will benefit from your vision and generosity,” said Fisher.
