After a thorough grants review by our volunteer panel, Dufferin Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of our four Arts & Culture Grants and our annual Environment Fund grant.
Arts & Culture Grants
The Arts & Culture grants were largely made possible through the W.&M. Edelbrock Fund, a donor-advised fund with the Foundation. This year’s awardees will be enriching our community through the following programs and initiatives:
Dufferin Child and Family Services – Glowetry: The Word Book
GLOW, the 2SLGBTQ+ drop-in support group at DCAFS, will self-publish “Glowetry: The Word Book,” a collection of art and poetry created by GLOW youth aged 14-18. The grant will enable them to make physical copies of the book and distribute free copies to libraries, schools and community organizations county-wide.
Streams Community Hub – Amplifying Young Voices
Streams will use the grant to purchase upgraded microphones and audio equipment for their Sing Club and Centre Stage programs. The new equipment will enhance the quality of recording sessions and live performances with children and youth, including concerts, recitals and theatre taking place in 2025.
Caledon Meals on Wheels – Engaging Seniors Through Arts and Culture
The grant will fund a four-session interactive program with seniors in Dufferin County that highlights different art forms and cultural experiences, and fosters social connection, mental stimulation, and appreciation for the arts. Sessions include a Visual Arts & Painting Workshop, Dance and Movement, and Cultural Storytelling.
The Brave Canoe – All My Relations
In the new year, a three-session series will be offered featuring interactive cultural activities and foundational Indigenous teachings. The goal of the program, which will be open to all and low or no cost, is to strengthen community connections and cultural understanding, and to provide insights into Indigenous worldviews.
Environment Fund Grants
This is the second annual environmental grant, made possible by every donation to our Environment Fund. The grant has been awarded to the National Wildlife Foundation, which is currently building a wildlife centre that will serve Dufferin County.
National Wildlife Foundation – Wildlife Wellness
The grant will be used at the new centre, which is opening in January 2025. The comprehensive wildlife care program will help provide critical medical care to over 200 injured, sick, and orphaned wildlife in Ontario, train student interns in wildlife medicine, and inform communities about their role in protecting wildlife.
